astm d 1384 test method for engine coolants in glassware
astm d 1384 - 05
If using a simple beaker and a dry water wash:
a. Place the beaker containing the coolant on the heating block and heat until the coolant begins to boil. b. Allow the coolant to boil, on average, for about 5 min. c. Using a measuring spoon, carefully remove 1 to 2 mL of coolant from the beaker. d. Using a glass rod, agitate the coolant in the beaker for 15 s. e. Using a spatula, gently transfer the coolant to the inside of the test vessel. f. Place the beaker containing the coolant in the test vessel and allow it to stand for 1 min. g. Using a glass rod, agitate the coolant in the test vessel for 15 s. h. Using a spatula, gently transfer the coolant to the inside of the second beaker, and repeat step f. i. Using a glass rod, agitate the coolant in the second beaker for 15 s. j. Using a spatula, gently transfer the coolant to the test vessel. k. Repeat steps f to j for at least two additional times with an additional 1 to 2 mL of coolant. l. Using a glass rod, agitate the coolant in the test vessel for 15 s. m. Using a glass rod, agitate the coolant in the second beaker for 15 s. n. Using a spatula, gently transfer the coolant to the inside of the third beaker. o. Repeat steps f to m for at least two additional times with an additional 1 to 2 mL of coolant. p. Using a glass rod, agitate the coolant in the third beaker for 15 s. q. Using a glass rod, agitate the coolant in the test vessel for 15 s. r. Use a spatula, gently transfer the coolant to the side of the test vessel. s. Using a glass rod, agitate the coolant in the test vessel for 15 s. t. The coolant must be removed from the test vessel and beaker by rinsing with a small quantity of water before moving the beaker to the acid-resistant foam mat. u. Allow the coolant to stand for 1 min. v. Using a glass rod, agitate the coolant in the test vessel for 15 s. w. Using be359ba680
